2012 TPSS Winter Clinics

We are pleased to announce the 2012 Youth Winter Baseball Clinics - an eight week program beginning Monday January 9, 2012 through March 5, 2012 (no session on January 30.) The content of the program will include hitting, fielding, throwing, pitching and catching instruction as well as game and player strategy and tips for staying on top of the mental part of the game.  The program is designed to prepare the young athlete for competitive baseball play and to begin preparation for high school level baseball.

The Clinic will be divided into two age groups - 6pm-7pm ages 10&11 and 7pm-8pm ages 12&13.  Each session is limited to 12 to 15 players. The early bird registration fee will be $145 for the 8 week session. After December 3, the registration fee will be $175. Registration deadline is December 16. (Scholarships available based upon demonstrated financial need.)  All sessions will take place at the Takoma Park Presbyterian Church gym on the corner of Tulip and Maple.  Clinic participants will compete for performance and most-improved awards, and upon completion, all participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt.

The clinic is being led by Gordon Pavy.  Coach Pavy has led TPSS regular season, All-Star and tournament teams, as well as TPSS-sponsored select teams in BCC and MCBA leagues since 1994. Coach Pavy will be joining the coaching staff at Blair High School for the 2012 season.  This winter marks the return of the winter clinic for its 12th year after a two-year hiatus.  Joining Coach Pavy in the clinic will be Alex Rumbaugh and Miles Fisher.  Alex and Miles have coached the MCBA 18U team    consisting primarily of Blair high school varsity players for the past 5 summer and fall seasons.  Coach Rumbaugh is a graduate of Blair and played TPSS baseball as a youngster. Coach Rumbaugh was named MCBA 18U Coach of the Year in 2009.  Current Blair high school players will also be assisting.

The program will include optional, additional, pay-as-you-go weekend batting cage sessions.  Players will car pool to cages in either Gaithersburg or Laurel if there is sufficient interest. These sessions will include video review of players hitting mechanics. Additional cost will be about $10 per session, depending upon the number of participants.  If you are interested in these extra sessions, please note your interest on the registration form.

I encourage all of you to visit our new web site and see the many new features available (more will be added) - it works with any operating system on your browser of choice. We welcome your feedback.
