August 2018

Dear Parents,

I hope that each of you is enjoying your summer with family and friends and you are looking forward to a great spring softball season. However, you do not have to wait until our winter clinics or our spring to watch your daughter play softball again. I am thrilled to announce that our Pavy* Instructional Fall TPSS Softball will be offering two exciting opportunities for our players. We will be partnering with 5-Star Athletics to provide skills and pitching clinics this fall on Saturdays between September 08 and November 10. These Fall Softball Clinics will provide players with a chance to strengthen their hitting and fielding skills in a fun, but competitive environment. Players will work with coaches and 5-Star Athletics instructors while participating in a variety of engaging and fundamentally sound drills during each session. Every other week, players will then put those skills into practice while playing a scrimmage against another TPSS team.

Parents and players have been asking for opportunities to play more softball so I am very excited that we will be able to provide this opportunity in the fall. I hope to see you out there!

Please see below for specific information about both of these exciting events. Each clinic (Pitching and Skills) will be held at Hillandale Park (10615 New Hampshire Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20903between 9:00 am and 11:00 am. The cost for the pitching clinics will be $90 per player and the skills clinics will also cost $90 per player. Earlier Birders' get a discount of $15.00 off the cost of each registration. Early Bird ends August 17.

Please note that there are only 12 slots available for the pitching clinics and 25 slots for the skills clinic.. If your player participates in the pitching clinic, they will need someone to catch for them, so bring your own glove. Please use the link below to register now.

* Our Fall Instructional Leagues and our Winter Clinics have been named in honor of Gordon Pavy. Gordon died in 2017 from complications from cancer. Gordon loved baseball and softball and devoted much of his adult life to playing the game and teaching his skills to youth.   Gordon was one of the founders of TPSS, a TPSS Board member, coach of the Blair High School JV Baseball, and the leader of the TPSS clinics.  The TPSS Board of Directors authorized this honor.

Fall Pitching Clinics:

Players in each pitching clinic may be divided up into smaller groups (Beginning pitchers and Advanced pitchers) in order to better meet the needs of each pitcher signing up.

8U and 10U:

As players get older, pitching becomes an even more integral part of the game so we are hoping that your player will take advantage of the opportunity to learn how to pitch or refine their pitching skills in preparation for the spring season. This will be the first year that we begin offering pitching clinic opportunities for our youngest players. That means you 8U! Starting now, will give you a leg up when it comes to learning the basics of fast-pitch softball. We have had some 10U players take advantage of participating in past pitching clinics and seemed to have benefitted from the opportunity.

12U and 14U:

Those pitchers registering for the 12U and 14U Pitching Clinics are for players that have 2-3 years of pitching instruction under their belt or for players in these divisions that may be pitching for the first time. Those that have 2-3 years of experience will be ready for more focused instruction when it comes to specific skills so that each player can become a more proficient and accurate pitcher. These clinics will focus on techniques that can be used on and off of the field to help each player grow into a more complete pitcher.

Fall Skills Clinics:

8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U:

These skills clinics will provide players with an opportunity to further strengthen their knowledge of the game and refine their ability to play softball at an even higher level.
